This page explains the limited information Buyers Shortlist uses to run the website, respond to messages and understand which guides and retailer links are useful.
Aggregate site measurement
We measure engaged page views and retailer-link clicks as daily totals. A view is counted only after a person interacts with a visible page in their browser; ordinary page requests and crawler-followed links are not treated as reader activity. We do not create visitor profiles, use analytics cookies, local storage, pixels or a persistent browser identifier for this measurement.
For each daily total, we may group counts by guide, product, merchant, broad traffic source and country. Country is resolved momentarily from the network address received by our server and only the country code is retained in the aggregate. We do not retain IP addresses, full referrer URLs, browser locale, time zone, individual journeys or time-on-page.
We retain aggregate measurement for up to 13 months. We rely on our legitimate interests in understanding the performance, usefulness and commercial sustainability of the site, balanced against this minimised, non-identifying design.
Retailer and affiliate links
When you actively select a product link, Buyers Shortlist records an aggregate click count before sending you to the retailer. Links remain available if browser scripting is unavailable, but that navigation is not counted as qualified activity. The retailer then operates its own website, privacy notice and cookies. Some links may be affiliate links, which are clearly identified; they can enable us to earn a commission without changing our editorial rankings.
We use your country transiently to select an appropriate merchant offer or delivery fallback. That routing decision does not create a visitor profile.
Contact messages
When you use the contact form, we process the name, email address, subject and message you provide so that we can review and respond to it. We keep contact messages for up to 24 months, unless we need to retain them longer to handle an ongoing matter or meet a legal obligation.
Hosting and service providers
Buyers Shortlist is hosted using Amazon Web Services infrastructure. Access to operational records is limited to the Buyers Shortlist editorial team and service providers acting on our instructions where necessary to host and secure the service.
Your choices and rights
You may ask to access, correct or erase personal information we hold about you, or raise a privacy concern, through our contact form. You may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, and to complain to the Data Protection Commission in Ireland. We will ask for enough information to verify and handle a request safely.
